The Skill Exchange Residency program is designed to be a unique & competitive opportunity for artists to have unlimited 24/7 access to our common studio space and equipment for one to two weeks. Residents will be expected to work independently throughout their residency, though assistance can be arranged at an additional fee to be determined as needed. We do not expect any particular product or outcome from resident artists in this program. Artists in this program are free to experiment or to execute a planned project – it is up to them.

The Skill Exchange Residency is offered in exchange for one of the following:

- Teaching a workshop: Residents will be expected to conduct 1 or 2 workshops during their time in residence, sharing their skills with our South Florida audience and encouraging the exchange of ideas.

- Labor: Are you skilled in bookbinding or press maintenance? There are always projects around the shop we could use additional help with. In your application, please make note of what crafts you’d be willing to trade in exchange for the residency.

We Provide:

  • 24/7 access to the common studio space, including use of any equipment you are trained and authorized to use upon arrival.

  • Supplies like paper provided at-cost

  • Etching, relief, and letterpress ink

  • Cleaning supplies

  • Use of silkscreens

  • Emulsion

  • Newsprint

  • 50% discount on assisted studio time (link) during the residency

  • 20% discount on scheduled workshops during the residency

  • 25% discount on our studio membership if you will want to rent studio time after the residency

  • One two hour strategy session with IS Projects Staff per week, every week during the residency.

Eligibility:

  • Professional artist working in print, book, or paper making

  • Excited about and able to complete the Skill Exchange outlined above

Related Programming: Residents are invited to propose additional programming concurrent with their residency, and will be appropriately compensated for any programming that they run outside of what they have offered for the Skills Exchange Residency. Examples of programming we would like to hear proposals for include workshops, mentoring sessions with our studio members, and artist talks. Additional programming proposals do not affect our evaluation of your residency application.
