Screen Printing Basics!

Screen printing is one of the most well known and versatile forms of fine art printmaking. This technique can be used to print anything from gig posters to t-shirts to fine art prints. In this class, participants will plan their image and print an edition of their own prints. This class is designed not only to produce an edition but to also build a solid foundation of screen printing knowledge so that all participants can produce prints on their own and continue to build upon their skills.
We provide materials for the workshop, however, the screens belong to IS Projects. We have added the option to take home your own, brand new screen after the workshop. Screens are $30 each.

Suminagashi Paper Marbling & Letterpress!

In this workshop, students learn the basics of Suminagashi paper marbling and letterpress printing! This Japanese technique of marbling uses only ink, water, and wind to create beautiful, airy designs. Through this process, we will be experimenting with making marbled patterns as a ground on fine art printmaking papers and then printing customized text overtop using our wood type and printing press. Each student will leave with two 11” x 14“ custom prints and lots of marble samples to use as decorative papers!

Make Your Own Leather Travel Journal!
Price: $300
Class Length: 3 hours
This is a private class. Up to 4 Students Welcome.
Instructor: Brooke Frank
In this class, each student will learn the basic principles of bookbinding while making a completely customized and unique soft cover leather travel journal. We will start by cutting, and stamping raw leather to make the perfect cover. Then we will learn how to prepare the paper and sew it to the leather cover to make a long-lasting, sturdy travel journal.

Cyanotypes on Paper or Fabric!
Price: $400
Class Length: 3 hours
This is a private class. Up to 4 Students Welcome.
Instructor: Sammi McLean
This class will focus on the cyanotype process! The prints are made using either paper or fabric (your choice when you sign up) that have been coated with a photo-sensitive emulsion. When exposed using UV light, they create rich blue photographic images. The workshop will cover both analog processes, like creating photograms from found materials, as well as digital processes by learning how to prepare files for the creation of digital negatives. Paper, transparencies, chemistry, and tools necessary for creating cyanotypes are included in the cost of this workshop.
*Students who want to work with their own photographs will be asked to send their files in advance for printing films. They are also welcome to bring their own found objects. Students will be sent a welcome/instruction packet after scheduling a private class.

Shibori Indigo Dyeing!

Shibori is an ancient Japanese natural dye technique that uses binding, stitching, folding, twisting and compressing cloth to create beautiful blue patterns. In this workshop, participants will explore the ancient technique, learn how to mix a dye bath, watch a dyeing demonstration, and create their own unique dye patterns by using various resist techniques on cloth. Fabric pieces will be provided for each participant.
