Winter 2022

Saying goodbye to 2022
It’s been an incredible, unforgettable, wonderful and sometimes seemingly insurmountable, year. As 2022 comes to a close, we have been reflecting on all of the exciting projects you’ve brought our way, the great questions you’ve raised, and all of the exciting ways we’ve been able to grow together. However big or small our role was in your year, we’re really grateful to have been a part of it.
We have a couple of things to catch you up on before we get to 2023 to make sure you’re ready to make the most of your time with us. It’s all good news from here, so read on to see what’s we’ve got planned.
Holiday Hours
If you are still hoping to sneak in some prints before New Years, you are not out of luck! We are maintaining our normal business hours right up to the end, with only two exceptions: we will be closed on Friday, December 23rd and Friday, December 30th. If you are hoping to rent some time on a press Tuesday through Thursday, 11AM-7PM through the end of the year, please reach out as soon as possible to coordinate. As always, you can arrange your studio rental by emailing Brooke Frank at brooke@isprojectsfl.com, stating what you want to work on, what equipment or studio area you’ll need, and when you’d like to come in. We will return to our usual studio hours in 2023, welcoming you to print Tuesday-Friday, 11AM-7PM.
Last-Minute Gift Ideas
The holidays are here and, if you’re at all like us, it’s possible that you might still have some gifts to give. We also suspect it’s possible that your life is full of creative folks who might like to learn or make something new. If you’re still trying to sort out a thoughtful gift to give, we have a couple of ideas for you!
We of course have a small selection of prints and handmade leather journals here, if you’re looking for a something more tactile, but if your loved one is more interested in experiences, we have great news:
If you’ve been coming in to print and thinking that a studio membership would be really great for someone you love, we have now made it possible to gift a studio membership to anyone! You purchase the membership at this link, you receive a code, and you share the code and the corresponding sign-up form with this very lucky person so that they can tell us in their own words about what they’re excited to make.
If instead you’re looking for something a little more casual, your discount on scheduled workshops applies to every workshop seat you buy in this holiday season with your STUDIOMEMBER code, so you can purchase seats for you and your loved one to learn new things together! We always have a good time with our workshops, but having some folks who know each other sign up together makes for an extra fantastic time. We have just released our next wave of workshops, so explore the options on our website, or scroll to the bottom of this email for a preview.
Either way, gift wrap is optional, and fun is guaranteed!
New Membership Benefits
We are always thinking about how we can make sure we’re providing you with the support your practice needs to grow — whether that’s more time to come in and print or more opportunities to build up and be a part of the South Florida print community. There are a few things coming up that are members-only benefits that we wanted to put on your radar as soon as possible.
Last quarter, we quietly integrated weekend Open Studio Sessions hosted by our Key Holder Residents, and we are very happy to report that we will be continuing to offer these sessions in the new year! We have not published the next wave of Open Studios yet, but they will be found in the “Classes” page on our website very soon. Each session is four hours, costs only $40, and is open to our studio members exclusively. These Open Studio Sessions are to be treated as unassisted studio time, which means you will need to be able to work independently in our studio in order to attend. If you need a little assisted studio time to prepare, be sure to reach out to Brooke to schedule that as soon as you can!
On Friday, January 20th, 2023, 7-9PM we will be introducing a new members-only program: Group Critique! We are planning for this to be a quarterly benefit for folks in all of our studio membership programs. Any studio member interested in participating in a constructive and productive conversation about their own work and the work of others is invited to bring one work of art to discuss. We will provide snacks and drinks, we will handle the time keeping, and Brooke will serve as our moderator. Please email her to RSVP — it’s free to attend, but it helps us plan!
On Friday, March 3rd, 2023, 7-9PM we will be hosting our quarterly Shop Talk event. Moderated by Ingrid, this event is an opportunity to get real geeky about all things book/paper/print. All studio members are invited to bring one work to discuss, and then the group will focus on an entirely technical conversation. This is a great opportunity to get a whole bunch of printer-brains together to figure out what’s wrong with your ink, or to show off your incredible registration, and of course, we will be providing snacks and drinks for this too. Please email Brooke to RSVP to this event, as well.
Lastly, we wanted to give you a slightly mysterious heads-up about our upcoming members-only portfolio exchange! We still have to hammer out the details (the size of the prints, a potential theme, and the deadlines involved in participating… it may even be possible to put together a show!), but we are looking to have the portfolio completed by the end of spring. Keep an eye on your inbox for details and deadlines — they’re coming soon!
Sammi McLean, Amber Frank, and Brooke Frank (no relation) talking about Sammi’s incredible collagraphs during Shop Talk. You can come to the next Shop Talk AND you can take Sammi’s Collagraph Workshop next quarter, details about both can be found in this email.
Lastly: Tropic Bound
You would not be receiving this email if you weren’t excited about some aspect of book and printmaking, so it would be ridiculous not to put this on your radar. From February 16th-19th, the Design District will be home to Miami’s first international Artists’ Book Fair! Ingrid is collaborating with Cristina Favretto, the Head of Special Collections at the University of Miami, and Sarah Michelle Rupert, the Collections Director at Girls’ Club Collection and also Ingrid’s co-founder for Small Press Fair, to bring Tropic Bound to life. It kicks off with a symposium, includes a bunch of auxiliary events and print/book focused Miami tours, and of course, the main event is the opportunity to meet, buy books from, and connect with exhibitors from all over the world!
Ingrid and Brooke are also co-curating a show of artists’ books for the Main Branch of the Miami Made Public Library — this will open a little before Tropic Bound and visiting it at the library would be a splendid addition to your print-and-book-themed plans that week. Keep an eye out for more on that, too! (This is the first we’ve mentioned of this show to anyone — yet another of your membership perks.)
Now you’re all caught up! We’re looking forward to seeing you around the studio and out in the world. We’re hoping you enjoy the holidays, get some well-deserved rest, and come back to us inspired!
Happy holidays, winter solstice, and New Year!
