This workshop is offered in tandem with Andrea Cote's Skill Exchange Resident at the Miami Paper & Printing Museum.
In the spirit of early artist-botanists, we’ll take inspiration from plant life through advanced techniques with monotype. We will forage in the natural environment around the Miami Paper & Printing Museum, and then return to the studio to push the techniques of monotype by layering 2 to three 3 plates per print. This way of working incorporates use of ghost prints and knowledge of ink translucency. Create forms using natural materials along with subtractive mark-making on the plate. Experiment freely or create a small varied edition of prints. Some familiarity with printmaking is helpful, but not required.
