This four week course meets once a week. It is designed to introduce the basic principles of designing and preparing plates for relief (through linocut) and intaglio (through drypoint) printing processes, as well as learning the fundamental skills of using and printing on an etching press. Participants will create their own imagery for both processes. Participants will learn to troubleshoot common printing issues while proofing, and begin to explore the ideas and skills required to successfully produce an edition of prints.

Participants will get a sense of how it feels to work in a communal space surrounded by others with similar interests and receive critical feedback to develop their work. Participants will also learn how to use and respect a large fine art press. Participants will leave the class with a working knowledge of shop etiquette and printing techniques and essential concepts. This course is focused on offering a solid foundation of skills which will allow participants to continue printing beyond the confines of the course. Each participant will produce a small number of proofs and prints, as well as their own plates, which they can continue to print from in the future.

Additionally, participants are invited to attend Open Studio sessions (normally reserved for Studio Members) which occur between the first and last dates of this course. Access to Open Studio sessions can be purchased through the Classes page of our website.
